Statement from the artist:
"Why the hands on the sword?" is a question I have been asked quite a few times now. Part of me wants to say "Because I think it's cool.", which, in my opinion, isn't not true. But if we want to get a little more philosophical, drawing hands is a 'comfort food' of mine. I know a lot of people do NOT enjoy illustrating hands - "They're too complex! The fingers do too much! So many wrinkles!". All those statements are true, yet for me, hands have always been my fallback. When I'm in a rut, I draw hands. When I'm feeling burnt-out from drawing, I draw hands. When I want to draw but don't know what I want to draw, I draw hands. As artists and as people, we all have our fallbacks for when we're in the metaphorical 'gutter', and for me, that's drawing hands. Their endless character, uniqueness, and variety always brings me back to them. I draw them so much because I enjoy it, it's that simple. And you know what else I enjoy and is simple? A shish-kebab. You throw whatever stuff you want on a stick, grill it, and eat it. Can't go wrong with a shish-kebab. And I can't go wrong with drawing hands. Now, why is the stick a sword? Because I think it's cool.
